Let’s say our sorries and get it over with. Ok, I’m sorry. I haven’t written, let’s not dwell on it. And I know you’re sorry because you’ve probably at some point pretended to care. There, now we feel better.
The holiday (vacation) over Christmas was one not to be forgotten. Most of it anyways…Jamina came out-not of the closet (though at times I’ve wondered) -which blew me away. I love you all-some of you anyway-but ridiculous shout out to the one who flew all the way to South Africa to see me. Nothin but love for ya Little J. Respect. (I love you too Henley, I know you’d have come if that damn lotto plan woulda worked)
Kruger was everything it’s been said that it could be and more. We had some of spooks friends as tagalongs a bit, which was strange-but J and I managed to give them the slip the majority of the time. We saw everything, even a leopard in a tree with a kill!, except pangolins. I took loads of pics that some of you have already seen, but not enough space to add any here now now. Amy +1 were there and we got the opportunity to celebrate solstice together. The night before we left for Bloemfontein we had our Christmas/solstice party which was fabulous, even though I got a bone necklace…
Bloemfontein was one of the most bizarre experiences I’ve ever had the pleasure of having. Not only because I was dealing with a bit of culture shock spending THE Christian day of observance with a very conservative Afrikaans family, but also because spooks family were potentially co-mayors of crazy town. Uncomfortable barely intelligible englikans conversations with socially awkward elderlies who don’t like each other will certainly make an impression on a person. . And I mean that in an endearing way because by the end they had both, somehow, grown on me. Four nights, five days all together were spent with these people, a portion of it on our own as spook felt the need to hang out with people that weren’t us and were potentially going to sleep with him then tell him he had the smallest dick of anyone they had ever know. Curiouser and curiouser. By the end I had caught up on some sleep, though not much let’s be honest, but at least the sleep I did get was in a decent bed( spooks mum bought a new one for the occasion…)
Tensions were high as Dale, Jamina, Spook and I set off for Cape Town. Since dales awkward proclamation of love(good call Mr. Randolph) and my adoration for all other things- relations could be described as a little strained between us. We decided that the vacation would be handleable-ie dale couldn’t get his tickets refunded. But I had little J, and we had enough money for several bottles of wine so we figured we would make it. Make it she did, South African style, and jealous I was that she christened this beautiful country before I did. We drank, dined, played with penguins, wriggled our toes in the sand, puked for an hour in a nando’s, and I only drove down the wrong side of the road twice. New years on top of one of spooks friend’s roofs, blocks from Long street city centre below the awesome sight of Table Mountain was unforgettable. Many of you know many more details, and most of the rest will hear every story in detail in just a few short months (shit I’m coming home soon!-panicked voice) . J made it on the plane after a few ciders and some airport sushi. It did take a bit longer than anticipated to get home (fuckers that’s why I am terrified of flying!) but she got a few hours of first class out of it, and if you wanna know as bad as I do if first class is like a thai massage buy the girl a few drinks and she will tell all. (sorry j, occasionally I think I am hilarious).
Things got back to normal as much as they can. Dale fixed the door that he punched a hole in-uh I mean that he fell through. Albert took Dale, Laura, Erica, Tins and dud boyfriend Paul, Alex and I camping the very next weekend.
Miraculously L and I went as we needed to take two days off in a row and no one thought L would want to(understandably) but she was all about it. We were under prepared with the booze which was unfortunate but not tragic as it allowed Alex and me to get up early the next morning and hike up in the mountains to see the sunrise and look out over camp as everyone else slept in.
Stumbled upon a few beautiful waterfalls that everyone except L hiked up to a bit later. The freezing water was literally breathtakingly cold but a nice reprieve form the sweltering African heat.
And there’s still a lot of coming and going with people. Alex (Mr. Australia) is off in the drakensburg mountains camping for the week-which is the place that I’m going in April but he decided to steal my adventure- and he leaves to go back to Australia at the end of the month. I’m not pissed-and Tins(the Swiss student whom I have bonded with, not in that way creepers) got back this week from her vacation with her potentially ex-boyfriend that she picked up at the dud store because she thought it was the stud store(not her fault, her English isn’t the best) Professors coming and going have added a bit of stress about accommodation issues and evidentially the amount of booze and sex. What did they expect to happen with a bunch of young students stuck out in the field for months on end eh?
Upon ending this novel-like entry I would like to say to everyone that I hope their holidays went well. Laura bought our plane tickets back home and I booked mine for two weeks after she gets back to give me some time to do some exploring. Those of you near thierra can do me a huge favor by working on giving her that extra incentive to come out and see her sister in South Africa.
Mr. McFucklebee-lovin your additions and inputs. Though I am impressed with your confidence in your swimming capabilities, I potentially will be gone before you make it to this rock. Speakin of rock, your music does. Feel free to send me anything you have as damn near everything you put on my ipod kicks pertinent ass.

you were right. i was wondering when i would be able to read a new post. my b-day party went pretty well, except for the fact that peter drank himself past "fun peter" and into "jealous peter" before the party even started. it could only be described as bizarre since i had never seen that side of him before. i am currently questioning my life and what the hell i am doing with it. today i decided to learn spanish. but only because i have decided it's high time i'm able to backpack through mexico. we'll see when this new idea (or haze) wears off, hopefully i'll have learned spanish by then. i had coffee with joe the other day. eye-opening to the point that i will not write about it here. i have decided to hassle the people at the center for biological diversity in tucson for an internship this summer as well. and you know how good i am at hassling. i got paid today and am leaving work early to go buy stuff for your next, and most likely final, care package. i will include some pictures of a drunken henley at her birthday party- it only took one (however, large) cranberry-vodka since i was on an incredible amount of drugs for my cold. i'll end this by telling you to hurry back. i miss you and (as a fair warning) i am planning on hugging you when you return.
Fantastic summary of our adventures, and I'm already having more on my own that you need to be cued in on. Colorado is coming up and that should be a story in itself. My palm is getting pretty crowded, so I may need to add some chlorine to this gene pool. Good luck wth Mr. Australia, and plan our next trip to Lizard Island.
Hi monkey lady...school has started, and I'm actually pretty happy to be back. I've been trying to get some good work in at the zoo. I'm taking a class on African drumming, so maybe we can jam when you get back. Sounds like you're having some pretty crazy times. I'm having some pretty crazy times myself...in the ant lab, that is. But seriously, it gets pretty crazy up in there...the ant parties are off the hook. Well, that's all I've got. You enjoy yourself.
PS-you know I would have come to Africa, but I have my ant babies to look after...I hope you understand
Well, really Thunder didn't do a damn thing over the break (I know, cuz I was there) - that's why he's happy to be back in school, cuz that's the only thing that gets him up off his lazy ass to do anything... damn those mother fucking crocs on that mother fucking plane... will explain later Shannon. Anyway, it was great to hear your voice. There was so much more that I could have and would have said had I been awake (to be read as "calling at midnight is better than calling at 6am on my day off"), but it was great to talk to you at least, finally, for a little while. I think I'll have a new address by the 7th of February, although I'm not certain... shit's just crazy is all. As for the job, it's interesting. Go and wrestle an ostrich for me, and when you get back, we can compare notes (yeah, that's what I said). Hope you get to christen Africa before you leave, but don't do anything (or anyone) stupid. Miss you kid
the b-man
